Hopefully you guys can give me some advice on my PPK holster. The strap that holds the flap down has broken where it slips over the catch. I'm curious if anyone knows someone really good at leather repair/restoration. Since this is a fairly collectible Party Leader holster, I don't want to do anything that would take away from the originality, but maybe just repair the existing strap back to a servicable condition. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Larry, unless the leather is completely detached on both sides of the stud, I would leave it alone. An expert leather repairer can make invisible repairs on newer leather (like a sofa or car upholstery) but if the leather is dried out, I don't know what the result would be. Anything you do to it (like backing the split area with a very thin piece of leather, which would be my suggestion) will lower the value in someone's eyes.

The strap is completely detached. While I doubt that I'd ever sell the rig, someday my heirs will. On those grounds what lowers the value more, a broken strap or a repaired one. My concern is that sooner or later I'll fool around and loose the piece thats broken off and then it'll really look bad. I really don't want a simple patch job, but maybe the miracle worker I was hoping for doesn't exist.Ignored Due To Invisibility.Comment

Believe it or not, I know how to fix it. It would be delicately serviceable, and the split line would still be visible, but the halves would be together. It would be too difficult for me to explain how I do it, but I have used it to repair helmet chinstraps with a similar break. Again, such a repaired strap could be draped over the front visor of the helmet for display, but not rough handled. PM or email me and maybe I can explain how you can do it yourself, if you are the handy type.
