    Camera

    Hello Gentlemen.
I am planning of buying a digital camera for taking pictures of my (few) items and post them on the forum.
My knowledge about photography is very scarce and I wouldn't spend too much money.
Could anyone suggest me which kind of camera should I buy and, again, what are the basic rules for takin good pictures of the awards?
    Thank you for your cooperation.
    Best regards

Fabio - You are asking a good question and not sure if I can better assist you with your question, but here is what I am using right now. I am using a Cannon Powershot G3 digital camera with 4 mega pixels and 4x optical zoom lens. I have owned this camera for three years and to date I have been overall happy with it. The only thing I want to add to the camera is a wide angle lens to take pictures of larger items.

Things to consider in your purchases...my thoughts only other members may say something different to better assist you.
    1. What you are willing spend.
    2. Your needs and wants from a digital or SLR camera.
    3. Optical len...the higher the number the better the lens.

I hope this initially assists you.

I guess all the current digital cameras will take some decent pictures but as Ralph says, the higher the pixel rating the better, within your budget. Make sure it has a "macro" setting (usually a little flower icon on the body of the camera will confirm that for you) as this will enable the camera to focus very close to the medal, etc...If you have Windows XP the PC will recognise the camera and take you through the download procedure so you do not need to use the camera's own software. I have a Nikon Coolpix and am very pleased with it as it is small enough to be discreet when you need to be but, as stated above, other brands will no doubt be just as good.

Terry - Good point about being able to use computer software. I am currently using Zoom Browser EX software from Canon with my camera and it is great.

For the rather small Budget,I'd recommend this Olympus Camera.
7.1 MP 3x optical zoom / Makro-Modus and Super Makro-Modus and a very large Screen. Makes superb close-ups.

Regarding the Software, most Computer with Windows XP don't need the Software that comes with a Camera. Just plug-in the Camera through USB Port and load up the photos for Example in IrfanView. IrfanView is a small and easy Photo Software,(mostly pre-installed with XP) you can download for free.
This Programm is so easy like Windows Paint. You can resize the Photos with this Programm, sharpen them if needed and so on.

          Regards
          Andreas

                    white balance

Of secondary importance (resolution and macro first) I personally also find it important to have good control over white balance.
