    Cleaning enamel badges

    Hi

I wonder if you can advise something to clean a couple of enamel badges that look very sorry for themselves and perhaps bring back some of the sparkle back to them.

I thought about using soap water, but washing liquid is pretty strong stuff and quite abrasive.

I use WD40 on some metal insignia to clean then up, though it does not seem appropriate for enamel

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

    Cheers

Sudsy Ammonia is the best product for cleaning enamel pins. It will not remove any of the protecting lacquer and will get rid of dirt and nicotine.
DO NOT use it on painted, late war pieces.

        HI

        Thanks for your help

Enamels vary greatly in strength and application and so I needed to check, especially with damaged enamel surfaces and aged enamels.

I would have hated to apply something stringent on the badge and watch it make it worse

I will have a go with a really beat up badge and take it from there.

        All the best

        Raymond
