    Brittle liner fingers HELP!!!!!!!!

I have just got a M40 named lid today but the liner fingers are so brittle the last 2ins a couple have cracks across almost about to fall off and another couple not quite as bad. I hate touching anything but If I dont try and support them they will definately fall off. I just cant sit there and do nothing seeing them wave about when I pick her up. I was thinking of useing a glue similar to the stuff used to glue the tie hole stiffeners. Use some kind of thin gauze or similar as a backing.Any suggestions as to how to go about it ,what glue, ect any info would be very gratefully received. Peter

It may be possible to glue very narrow and discrete pieces of reenforcing leather on the inside part of the liner fingers. I have seen it done before for other leather items , but I dont know what type of glue it was.
