I wanted to pass this along to everyone else. Several years ago, I bought a WRA M-1 rifle in the 1,200,000 serial range. I wanted to get another stock marked "WB" like the original, but I soon realized that it would be like hen's teeth to find. The stock was dark chocolate brown and dirty when I purchased the rifle, so I called Scott Duff and asked what he does to clean a dirty stock. His answer: 409. Remove as much metal from the stock as you can, then wet paper towels with 409 and scrub the stock and handguards. Replace the paper towels as needed until they come away pretty clean. Let it dry for a day or two, then apply tung oil to finish. It works beautifully.

I have an after shot. Back when I did this, digital cameras were almost as much as the rifle was. "Formula 409" is an all purpose cleaner that cuts kitchen grease. There has to be something like it in the UK. Here's the after shot.

I used pure acetone for my demilled k98. It helped a lot...
