    I use the great brit. Army Insecticide Aerosol. it kills also the eggs.
    Great Stuff. Was driving to the other end of Germany to get 50 Boxes.

      When using the freezing method, how long should the item stay in the freezer? 10min? 1hr? 1 day? Longer?

        I leave them for a few days (longer if I forget about them), seems to be more than sufficient.

            pest control - clothing/uniforms

            The "dirt" Jeff talks about includes oils, grease and all the "added attractions" (and attractants) caused by normal wear and use. Ie, they come with the artifact unless it's unissued/unworn. So, a pre-emptive strike - the freezer - is cionsidered essential by museums anc conservators for ALL new acquisitions.

            Oh, and it may seem elementary, but DON'T put them in the same room with the clean stuff before they've been "nuked"! Museums, if they're any good, have storage for new arrivals that's pest proof: airtight plastic works, as does the BIG freezer!

              length of freeze!

              Shoulda read more carefully! A week in the freezer is good - 24 hours won't do it. And Jeff's suggestion of doing it twice is even better. A pain in the backside but less embarassing than explaining to fellow collectors and friends how the collection of rags and frass (insect cr**) used to be a really nice 3rd Reich / Victorian british / WWI tunic, hat etc.
