    War room additions.

This week I made two additions to the war room. One was a cheap E-bay self-assembly shelving unit. The second was a "bit more expensive" and a major purchase for me: A Feldgrau wrapper with white-piped insignia. I have only seen a couple of them previously - one of which is the reed green HBT wrapper featured in Pruett and Edwards volume 1. Naturally I consulted both Bob Edwards and Mike Pruett prior to making the purchase. The likely wearer would have been in a Panzergrenadier SPW equipped unit which never made the switch to meadow green Waffenfarbe. It is known, just as with black wrappers, that it was a popular garment and many soldiers that had tenuous authorization for such wear took it upon themselves to "organize" wrappers for themselves. I set the newly arrived wrapper up on a torso form and did an initial display on the new shelving unit - which I'm not content with and will modify until I like it. In addition to being able to display a few more bits of my collection, the shelving unit allowed me to take a lot of my books out of the home office and move them into the war room. That eased congestion in the home office quite a bit.

Looks great! Really like how white colours allow the collection to be in focus. Much better than having a dark room.

Thanks! It was a conscious decision to only use white shelving units/book cases. Over the years I've seen many collectors use dark antique looking furniture and while it really goes well with the theme, the dark wood seems to swallow up or obscure the items sometimes.

Here's a pieced together panorama of the current Hauptkampflinie. It changes every week or two.

I love the new wrapper Todd, Congrats!
            ANd white piped too!

You guest room is the best guest room ever...and smart with the white.

A suggestion that would fit if you need more Helmet or headgear space is those white 1m shelves you get at Ikea which is fastened from behind....If suggestions are OK?

            Best

Fantastic stuff. I think you have done a great job putting this display together. Something else I appreciate in seeing this is that your focus is obvious. It takes a dedicated collector to really focus on a topic and build his collection around that.

I've never had the discipline to do it. My collection is a reflection of the way my mind works. Always running off in tangents. Chasing rabbits. Stacks of Great War stuff here. Iron Crosses there. Helmets over here. Boxes of photos in the closet. Daggers and swords scattered around.

So I really admire your focus and the obvious love and joy that was put into displaying this collection.

                Keep Well Friend,

                Z

P.S. Mads, I don't mean to hijack this man's thread, but could you please post a link or PM me a link to the shelving you mentioned from Ikea? I am in need of something simple and reasonably priced for the display of helmets and your suggestion sounds like it fits the bill.

Thank-you everyone for the kind comments. I like being able to share my enjoyment of this stuff with those suffering from the same affliction.

Thank-you very much Zachary for the kind words, but it's not quite deserved. I strive to keep my focus on Heer and in particular on armored troops (tank, assault gun, armored infantry, etc.) but I also have a lot of Luftwaffe stuff because I sometimes cannot resist it. It's just too cool. Even a little bit of combat police too.
So, I know exactly what you are talking about because actually I am the same way.

Thank-you Hasse. No doubt you recognize at least a couple items in the photos.
