    Well done mate!
I have always considered as very importat the way a group or collection is displayed
    Yours is very nice.
Although I can understand that some guys have to protect their investments in bank lockers I think that this way of displaying provides you a much nicer collectors experience.

    Just two questions.
Did you design the frame, lighting, etc.. And got it manufactured, or did you buy it already made and then adapted it?
Have you thought if you are going to display the documents also?
Kind regards and congrats for your nice RK group

Thank you Pedro. Once you secure whole house it is easy to display awards like this. Just installed cameras running on their own source of energy..

I expressed my thoughts to carpenter and we spent over 2 months customizing even more. There are 6 display cases like this or even bigger right now done for me. More to come

I wont be displaying documents as I am afraid of damaging it even without direct sun or reflected.

It's a nicely executed display with a lot of detail. A work of love!

Merks was never an official Ritterkreuz recipient however.

The German Federal Archives have no documentation on Merks as an RKT.

Did you contact Mr. Veit Scherzer or buy his book?

                      Cheers!

Scherzer would never accept after war award document nor respect Doentiz's decree. In my opinion, we have no power to decide whether he was official or not but if he received it based on Fuhrer Doenitz's order...

It's important to understand that the verbal (!) "Doenitz decree" was NEVER legal. This means it has absolutely no meaning.

Until the end of the war, the ONLY person who had the legal authority of awarding the Knight's Cross and its higher grades was Adolf Hitler as the "Führer" and Reichskanzler.

Doenitz's decree was nothing more than a military order. A military order however could not overrule an existing state law. The existing law gave only Adolf Hitler the award authority. The law was never changed by Doentiz though. Doenitz was Reichspräsident and Oberster Befehlshaber der Wehrmacht, not the "Führer."

In the specific case of Merks no recommendation whatsoever had ever been written, submitted neither before May 8th, 1945, nor days afterwards. It is non-existent.

It was only Mr. Fellgiebel and the "Ordensgemeinschaft der Ritterkreuzträger" (OdR) who "made" Merks an RKT. So in reality a gentlemen's club declaring someone after the war a Ritterkreuzträger. This way you and me could have been declared RKTs (lol).

I strongly recommend Veit Scherzer's book. It's packed with razorsharp facts and cleans up massively with lies and false information.

                              Cheers,
                              Markus

                                Only to add:

When Mr. Merks wrote a summary of his war decorations in 1956 to be legalized by his home state (certificate is part of your group) he omitted/did NOT (dare) to list the Knight's Cross since he knew it was illegal and that the authorities would not have legalized his document.

I think this is quite striking.

Where he got the "lazy 2" from is a mystery. Bought somewhere at a flea market after the war I assume.

                                Cheers,
                                Markus
