    Mannequins

I'm working on displaying a tunic, but I have no experience in mannequins, here are my questions.

    1. Is there a specific website you usually get your mannequins at?

    2. I have a limited budget, so is there anywhere I can got a good full sized no head mannequin for under $100

    3. Do mannequins need to be acid free, or is it less of a deal because of the size of the tunics.

    Thanks,
    Ethan

Ethan check the second-hand shops, also the newspapers in the for sale sections, as used mannequins do turn up, and I have pick up few this way, and under $100.00 mark, plus its better to buy second hand as you may need to do some alterations to the feet to fit your boots, and if you have small size uniforms well you may need to use female mannequins, then you need to cut out the breasts to get the flat chest look.

Also try and buy the fibreglass ones, as the plastic mannequins are no good for your uniforms!

Lou58, what is it about the plastic that hurts your uniform?

      Thanks,
      Ethan

I was informed by a retailer in this area that apparently plastic cause problems, and I just can't remember the issue as it was a while ago when these mannequins we're first sold on the market, I think is was about plastic being a soiled material and doesn't circulate air but as fibre glass is made up off criss cross fibre's that lets it breathe. I think it may be a problem during summer months.

One thing I forgot to add, and that this problem is for long time use, and us collectors have displays that stay on display for long periods of time!

Also you would ask why retail fashion shops use them, well they don't display their garments for long periods of time.

            Grüß Di' Ethan,

Here's a good cloth-covered mannequin/torso form that I like. It can be displayed with or without head and arms. You can also do a full figure with trousers and boots. It's small enough for most period tunics.

Here are a couple of my set-ups with this mannequin:
