Some photographs of the Wehrpass of Franz Heim of Bataillonsstab der II./ Infanterie-Regiment 423 before being transferred to the 12. (MG) Kompanie/ Grenadier-Regiment 423. As said earlier, it is my first ID for this Kompanie but certainly a great Wehrpass!

Franz Heim was decorated with the Eisernes Kreuz 2. and 1. Klasse (Posthum), Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz and the Ostmedaille, On 1 March 1944 he was promoted to Feldwebel for Bravary! He went missing on 31 March 1944 and died 4 March 1944 (according to VB 6 March). In first line he was a Fieldcook and when in action he was a schwere Granatwerfer-Unteroffizier (?). On March 31, 1944, the Soviets launched several (massive) attacks the front which the 212. Inf. Div. was defending.

Currently I now own 20 Wehrpässe / Soldbücher of this Division.

Since his name is not a common one I thought why not run it through the Volksbund database.. I found a match.. There is only one Kvetinowsky listed.. First name: Johann... Rank: Grenadier ... Killed in Action on December 22, 1944. His final resting place is the Military Cemetery in Sandweiler (Luxemburg). He most likely fell during the attack on Consdorf (just as Georg Jedelhauser a day earlier). Award document is signed by Generalleutnant Franz Sensfuß.
A few days ago I visited the cemetery of Sandweiler (Luxemburg), to visit various graves of the 212. Volks-Grenadier-Division. Especially that of Grenadier Johann Kvetinowski of whom I own the EK2 Urkunde, which he earned posthumously.

That is really neat. You brought a real person to a piece of paper that you own. Very cool man. ThNks for sharing.

Thanks, Ostprussenmann, I hope I also interest other out there. Something new I received in a partial trade. Soldbuch from a soldier that previously served with the Kriegsmarine however to fulfill the ranks of the Wehrmacht he was transferred to the 212. Volks-Grenadier-Division. Equipped with the Sturmgewehr 44, he went to serve in the Regimentsstabskompanie/ Grenadier-Regiment 423. He went missing in/near Berdorf on December 27, 1944. Since he has a POW Number entry in the SB and a small POW paper that came with it, he most likely became POW. Strangely is, that he is still listed as Missing on the monument in his hometown. Letter was signed by Oblt. Rudolf Mütschler.

Had to search for a while but finally I was able to add überschühe "423" to my collection. Used by Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 423 / Infanterie-Regiment 423.

I've waited long but finally.. a dream came through. Thanks, Frode, for the chance you gave to acquire it. I was able to add the estate of Knight's Cross Holder Rolf Stiegert, who earned the Knight's Cross for his efforts as Hauptmann u. Bataillonskommandeur of the Grenadier-Regiment 316 during the Battle of the Bulge / Ardennes Offensive. He served with the Division from the beginning of the war until the end. Stiegert was also the bearer of the German Cross in Gold.

I still used an old photograph from the previous owner however over time I hope to show you more and tell you a little more. I am currently also thinking to write a Divisional history on the Division, which does not exist. The Knight's Cross is a reproduction however his RK is out there but unfortunately was sold previously separately from this group (not by the previous owner).

No problem, my friend. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did when I owned it.

Do a search here on the forum, and you will see pics of two award docs + his RK.

I've decided to start a new book project for a first Divisional History on the 212. Infanterie-Division. For this I have also created a website which can be found on www.212infdiv.com. I am looking for your help, if you have material which you are willing to part or send scans / copies of Photographs, Military ID's, Award Documents and so on... please contact me. It would be most appreciated.

I once owned the Knights Cross that belonged to Rolf. It was looked at by Dietrich and determined to to a post war B frame S&L incuse 800. It was the one pictured in Gordon's book on page 314. It also had two wartime documents with it. The last I know it was sold to Bill Shea. He might be your point of contact to find its where abouts at present time. This was done approximately 4 years ago. Hope this helps to reunite the group. TPK

Thanks for the extra information! I added a few Military IDs in the mean time and also a few Award documents (including two sets). Also over 350 negatives from a soldier who served in Infanterie-Regiment 316. See one of them below, they will be used in the book(s) I am writing on the Division. Today also my first Wehrstammbuch arrived with many photographs, a Gesundheitsbuch and a few documents of Hauptmann Stumpf, who earned the DKiG in 1945!

As you know I am currently writing a book on the 212. Infanterie-Division which is going to be the first Divisional History book on this Division (thought I still do not know yet if it will be in one or two parts). The book is going to be in German, maybe later in English (if there is enough success to do so). I am looking for all help, if anyone has material related to this Division, please give me a heads up. If you are not willing to sell or trade, I am also very happy with copies and scans. You'll be credited accordingly.

If anyone wants to be kept updated either send me a PM with your Email or sign up via my website.
