first attempt at a riker display! what do you think?
wel i finaly got a riker case there so i was messing about with a few loose medals i had what do you guys think? im most intrested to know the best way of displaying papaer packets with medals! thanks!

I think it looks nice. You might like to add a bit of cloth over the foam backing for a good contrast. JasonS

I'll have to second the comment about the cloth backing over the foam. It goes a long way to dressing up the whole presentation.

Looks good, Paddy. But i agree with the others and recommend you to use another background, cloth, if possible. And blue or other dark silk as a background looks good too.

Hi Paddy,
May I say displaying this type of packet, in direct/indirect sunlight or not will turn them over a short time into yellow brown thingys. I wouldn't suggest you display them at all, the medals would look excellent on their own and as suggested with a backing to the mount.
You won't notice the gradual effect, and when you do it will be to late, the same goes for the old paper citations (TR etc era) they will all go yellowish with time......it's just the pro's and con's of personal preference etc etc. I'm not debating that or saying what you shouldn't do this or that.......indeed enjoy them and rightly so they are your to do with as you wish.
Anyway it's looking good, and show us any changes you make, I need some inspiration myself for displays.

Nice looking Patrick! I have to agree with Marcus though regarding the packets. If you will take off the top after a few days and hold the glass up to the light, you'll see a kind of negative of the paper on the glass. This can't be a good sign for preservation of paper in this type of display case. I had an award document in a riker for a few weeks one time. When I took off the lid I could read all the print from the document in the ghostly image it left on the glass.

That's a nice display. I might consider a satin back cloth...something with a little shine to frame each item....something stunning like a blue or maroon. That's just my two cents.
