    "Theme" displays in Riker mounts

    Hi all,

I recently started gathering pieces in my collection into small themes like the one in the attached pictures. I am going to construct some narrow, long walnut shelves that will allow many cases to rest at a slight angle against the wall for easy display, and additions/removal. My first displays Eastern Front related objects. I am currently gathering pieces that will relate to HJ, WW I aviator, War Merit Cross, and Hindenburgh crosses for inclusion in their own themes. What do you think? Please feel free to attach photos of your items if you display this way.

            Steven,

I like it. I've considered doing this same thing. Your particular display is thought provoking, and I think a nice conversation piece.

I'd love to see more as you go along.

            Thanks.

                Thanks Don-
Yes, I placed a piece of "CRANBERRY" felt in it that was obtained from a craft store locally.

                  Hi Jim & John-

Many thanks. I was going for a simple and "thought provoking" display, I am glad to see that others view it in the way that I had intended. I will post others as they are complete.

Great stuff, It's amazing how much a nice photo can add to a grouping. Your funeral pic has all the ingredients to make you think about what these awards actually mean.
Looking forward to seeing more groupings

I agree with you completely. I have quite a few funeral/death photos of the fallen taken in Russia from one soldier's private scrap book. Even though I do "collect" these items, I see myself more as a conservator of them. I try to communicate a message of remembrance, and sacrifice in all of my displays. When someone looks at a display like this, the initial reaction is usually-"WOW...COOL!", as the photos are not usually the first thing they notice. After a few seconds when they finally notice the content of the photo, I always see a distinct and somber change in their demeanor and expression.
