Last year I was fortunate enough to aquire a wristwatch worn by swords recipient and commander of many famous units as "Totenkopf", Goetz von Berlichingen", "Das Reich" and "Reichsfuehrer-SS" - Otto Baum.
The obverse of the watch shows the maker's /brand name "Record Watch Co. Genf". The reverse bears a serial number registered as "special equipment" in Baum's 2nd edition 1944 Soldbuch.
The images below show Baum, wounded waering what seems to be just this watch.
Eventhough this is no war decoration of an SS front officer for special valor I believe this watch is a neat item directly connected to the officer through his Soldbuch entry. Needless to mention "whom" or "what" this watch has seen or met during it's use by Oberfuehrer Baum in the front lines of combat amongst his men.
I would very much appreciate to hear from people knowing more about these military timekeepers. To whom they were given out, what types exist and whether it is possible to research the serial numbers.
Looking forward to anyone's input!
Thanks in advance
Markus
