Unform Display/storage Glass cases vs Dolls?

    Hi there,

I've looked high and low but not found a discussion on this so indulge me please...

I'll be obtaining a uniform from Albert soon and am a bit concerned about how to store the beggar

I always thought a glass cabinet would be pre-requisite but looking at sarge's or other large collections in this forum I have need zippo, nada...

Am I wrong? If anyone has any could they post them up here please?

    Regards

    BDS.

    Displays

    Hi BDS,

Just remember, "moisture kills", so it all depends on your location and climate. I have one tunic/bust in a glass case with many other items, but most are just in the room itself. However I live in a very dry area. The glass case could become a trap for moisture if not properly ventilated so just be careful

      Hey BDS,

I agree with John's comments..... I'm going through a 'direction change' at the moment..... and up till now I had all of my uniforms on torso forms on shelves in a room.... moisture is not that much of a problem here in Florida cause it's so damn hot outside the air conditioning is running all the time .

But... you will have to deal with dust etc when they are in the open. I'm consolidating most of my items and concentrating on a few high end pieces and for those I am looking to have large display cases made. These I can put under glass to control the dust and bugs etc. Though I will have to be carful then with the humidity factor.

      Hope this helps.

      Cheers
      Mark

If you go with glass cases, they must be vented so air can move in and out. Stale air will promote mould, rot, and everything else you want to avoid. I have display rooms but all are completely sealed and filter ventilated. So they are (sort of?) giant cases. Living in the Canadian Maritimes, humidity for me is a constant struggle. There is too much in the summer and too little in the winter. In the winter a regulated humidifier is utilized to prevent drying and in the summer a regulated dehumidifier is used to provide moisture. Here is a link to a page on my web site which deals with these issues if you have an interest. Good luck!
