German Medals/Decorations Display

Hi Guys - I do a lot of woodworking around my small WW2 collection. I just started to collect German Medals/Decorations and thought I'd take a shot at coming up with a new display for them. As I'm sure you will notice, I don't actually have an EK1 (it's an EK2) nor a Panzer Assault Badge in the display as labeled....only because I don't have either yet :-) Once I do they will have a nice home waiting for them.

As you can see, I built in some battery operated LED lights which are fun to play with and change the colors....the red looks particularly sinister, although the iphone camera doesn't handle the photographing them very well.

That's a great Display, but when you become a new one more, what do you do? Can you expand it? Again, nice work!

Consi - Unfortunately no, I cannot expand this particular display. Knowing myself, I don't think I will get a lot more medals though. I'm the kind of collector who likes to get one really nice example of each piece instead of lots and lots of the same item (although I appreciate that form of collecting too). I kind of picked the medals that appealed to me the most and built the display around those. Were I ever to get something very rare or expensive (like a Knights Cross), that would merit it's own special display I think :-)

The text/graphics look great and the woodwork is fantastic!! What type of woods
did you use? I think the color works well with the badges.

Thanks Normandy! This is made out of Walnut and Hard Maple. I have a home made CNC machine that I use for the text and in this case the crosses and wings. I carve it out and then use a liquid inlay to fill it in. It's much more precise than I could do painting and it's certainly more durable as I can sand it flush and finish right over it.

Hey Mats - I'm not 100% sure but I think so. The product I use is called Inlace. It's really easy to use and seems to hold up well as my first few projects are now about 5 years old and there's no cracking or anything.
