    Custom machined Helmet Stands

Hi all, I've been tossing around the idea of making some custom machined helmet stands out of 6061 Aluminum. I'm a CNC machinist/programmer and decided on making this design first. Made from 3/8 thick 6061 aluminum and machined on a Haas CNC mill. I blanked out a 6" x 6" square base and then anodized them black. Next I re-machined them into a Eisernes Kreuz and engraveed the helmet type (M35-40-42) on each. I made the post out of 1.125" dia. x 12" aluminum rod tapped 3/8-16. Pieced them together with a 3/8-16 hex screw.
Posting them here opinions about this design are welcome. "Too flashy, not for me, I like em, can you make me some." Are thing I'm interested in hearing. I may start making these for the market needing some feed back. When I get more time I'll take better pics with helmets on them in a better setting.

Nice one Paul, it look good, one thing is how have you finished the end of the pipe, that the helmet will rest on. I had a acrylic maker make 12 stands for me, and I had asked him to make the centre acrylic shaft the size of 3/4's of a inch as you can buy from your local hardware or frith store those rubber ends that fit to the bottom off tables (that have piped legs). It works well as they don't do any damage to the interior of the helmet.

Another thing if it doesn't blow out the price is to have the centre shafts paint the same colour as the base.

Anyway my 2 cents input, oh yea I would buy some of you, how many well that will be worked out depending on what you will sell them for?

Thanks Lou, feedback much appreciated. Yes thought about rubber end caps. I like the idea of anodizing the posts black and trying acrylic posts. Will try that. I can custom make posts to lengths and finishes. I have other ideas on future designs beyond the EK.

Since you are so talented Sir, maybe try to make different stands, like a grenade 24 lookalike instead of a rod- and a mine as base.

Only try to help your get the business running

I've never been fond of these overly elaborate stands with custom engraving (metal or wood). I think they look tacky.

A simple base on the metal stand would look best IMO.

I think you have come up with a sharp looking display stand! I too like the thought of anodizing the post as well. As for capping the top of the post, how about a piece of delrin?

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Great feedback. I'm going to anodize some posts. I made some washers out of delrin to add between the post and base to prevent marring the base. I have also addressed the cap for the post.
