and the Italian Colonial Troops was born with the first 4 Eritrean Battalions formed in 1888 to which are added other 4 in 1895 .... and the first 4 Battailon remain always associated with the name of their first commander ....
(the first rule of a commander a Eritrean or Somali unit, to have the motivation and respect for their soldiers, was that during the attack, you had to lead the way and to be in front of everyone and for first during the attack...

The battle of Amba Alagi occurs (before Adua) near the Amba Alagi (3.483 mt). On 7 December 1895, the Italian garrison commanded by Major Pietro Toselli, consisting of 2,300 men between national and indigenous people, was attacked by about 30,000 Abyssinians; in the clash, the Italian forces were completely annihilated. To honor the fallen of this bloody battle, the Ascari of IV Battalion indigenous (entitled to the same Toselli) led from that moment the black band in mourning ..

Amba Alagi yesterday and today ...

a parenthesis (but also topics, that we resume later because the Duke of Aosta it was also an Meharists officiers!): always here, to Amba Alagi will be the last resistance of the Italian troops (20.000 men, colonial and national) until the surrender in May 1941, when Italy will conclude definitivament its colonial "adventure" in East Africa ....

Guard of Honour by the 1st Battalion Worcestershire Regiment at Amba Alagi (20th May 1941) for the Duke of Aosta when he surrendered to the allied forces
