    Christmas Arrived Early!

    Hello All,

Wanted to show everyone my early Christmas present. A BEAUTIFUL Waffenrock for Generalmajor Axel Von der Lochau. The tunic is made of fine doeskin wool and is absolutely stunning.

A big thanks to Neil for the following information on General Officer Generalmajor von der Lochau. Enjoy!

    Mark

Axel von der Lochau was born in Berlin15 June 1879, and was reported to be living in Hannover in 1958. He served in the army twice: beginning in late 1899, he served 38 years, retiring at the end of 1928; and again as an Ergänzungs officer of the Wehrmacht. From 1900 to his last prewar promotion, he served in Grenadier Garde Regiment 3. He reentered service the second time on October 1, 1933, exactly 34 years to the day after his first enlistment. He served for additional 9 years in this capacity before his final retirement in 1942. He served in the Ministry Personnel Section (Abteilung P2). After the outbreak of war, Lochau rose to command Prüfstelle III West as section Leiter.

Prior to the outbreak of the “great War”, Lochau received the Mecklenburg-Schwerin Griffin Order-Knight with Crown. During the war he went on to Iron Crosses 2nd and 1st Classes, Reuss War Merit Cross, Reuss-House Order 3rd with Crown and Swords, Saxe-Ernestine House Order-Knight 1st Class with Swords, and the silver Wound Badge. During the Weimar era he was awarded the Prussian Johanniter Order-Professkreuz and Prussian 25-Years Service Cross. His Third Reich awards include the WWI Honor Cross for Frontfighters (Hindenburg Cross).

    Known promotions dates:

    14 October 1900 - Leutnant (with backdated seniority of 30 January 1900)

    18 October 1909 Oberleutnant
    18 October 1913 Hauptmann
    1 September 1922 Major

1 March 1928 Oberstleutnant (final rank in first period of service)

    1 October 1933 Oberstleutnant (E)

    1 December 1934 Oberst (E)

    1 July 1941 Generalmajor

                  Hello,

Not that you see several General rank tunics, but you hardly ever see the parade versions. Congrats and thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. Yes, I purchased this Waffenrock from Bruce Herman at Grenadier Military Antiques. I was lucky enough to be the first to jump on it when Bruce had it on his web site.
