My very small Japanese sword collection.

Here is my very small Japanese sword collection. I no longer collect daggers and edged weapons, however, I have always had a love affair with the Japanese swords! I think it is because of the aura that goes with them.
By far the best built and best designed swords in military history! and they've been aroud for 500 years!

Anyways, about my swords. Both are WWII (Showa era) examples.
Top one is an extremely late war Japanese Naval Officers' Katana.
Bottom one is a civilian mounted Katana, that was pressed into military service by adding the leather covering to the saya, and military hanger.
Both blades are maker marked and the top one has a Japanese naval proof marking on it as well. Both blade are in excellent shape, and quite sharp!!

Behind the swords is an original Japanese Naval flag (sunburst pattern). It is make of silk, and is in excellent shape as well!

Great looking swords,i know very little about them ,do have one that came from a old guy will show you if your interested,also had my eyes on one for years that a neibour has it's dated 1600'/1700, if i remember will find out.

I decided to hang the flag today just above my sword stand.

PS-Merdock, I would love to see your sword. You can display it on the Japanese forum, and ask questions there about it too. there are some pretty good sword collectors there, that know thier stuff!

Speaking freely, I like it better when the flag is wrapped on the stand because otherwise it looks fairly large compared to the swords. The colors of the flag are very nice in contrast with the color of the scabbards.

Anyway, I think the swords deserve most of the credits here no matter how they are presented

HI, I AM NOT A JAPANESE COLLECTOR BUT I HAVE ALWAYS ADMIRED THEIR SWORDS, HOW THEY STAY SHARP AND STRENGTH AND KEEP THEIR SHINE EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE NOT PLATED.
