For lighting consider super bright LED's. They would no doubt have to be in arrays and you may have to be creative to build a worthwhile system as it is unlikely that any commercial product would do the job without adaptation. It would cost you more money but you'd have a low power, long lasting illumination system that produces very little heat.

    Cheers,
    David.
At Rathau on the Aller, the CO of 5th Royal Tanks advanced on foot to take a cautious look into the town before his tanks moved in. He encountered one of his own officers, a huge Welshman named John Gwilliam who later captained his country's rugby team, 'carrying a small German soldier by the scruff of his neck, not unlike a cat with a mouse.' The Colonel said: 'Why not shoot him?' Gwilliam replied in his mighty Welsh voice: 'Oh no, sir. Much too small.'

Thx Guys!! I think I will have to get James to have a look at it, its been on for about 2 1/2 hrs now and I can still touch the bulbs, he's a bit of a whizz when it comes to stuff like this, they sell led's in maplins which have suckers on them, he bought some for my sisters fishtank, they can change colour 2, and are only small, so what it looks like im gonna do is get them for long term illumination and when anybody comes to visit I will turn my halogens on!!!! My bedroom is lit up like blackpool with all my gadgets I have got in here, the electric meter is just ticking over, Dont half look lovley though!!! much better than shoved on my bookcase, even my mum was impressed!

          Great Pics!

I love it :x The Detolf rocks. I love the lights you put in there.. I never thought about getting fancy with mine, I just bought the basic non light.

You know what I love best about the cabinet now, is when you open it and get that great "old" smell. Maybe I'm just nuts but it makes me smile.

I'll keep you in suspense for at least a couple more days. The crown jewel of my growing collection should be delivered at the post office very soon. Without it you would just see a styrofoam head in the case
Don't want to run all the fun eh?

Get a hygrometer, I have about 5 of them lying all around my collection room inculding one in the case itself....
THey come in Digital and the plain old needle wire ones too.
They are cheap look on ebay if you have to.

I like my collection aroun 72 Deg F with a Humidity between 48-50%

That is just me but use some common good judgement. Too hot usually = drier as heat tends to dry things out, unless you live in a very moist area.

Let me know if I can help any further.

                        Halogen lights?

Are those halogen lights? If so...

Those things get HOT... One of the many things I've done in the course of my life is design and display large exhibits for trade shows, and I've used my share of these halogen spots...

                        Be careful!!!

...after about 24 hours total exposure to the halogens, whatever it is they're supposed to illuminate starts to fade, and the paint begins to scorch off the fixtures.

Has anyone ever tried using coloured lights in a case for different effect/look?
