      genuine?....

Order of the German Eagle... If you compare the quality of your medal and the one posted at the following location:

      http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=642656

There is a great difference in quality of workmanship...

      Kind regards,
      Don_

Don, can you please elaborate those differences (not including the marking). I do know that high class copies have been made (mainly the stars), but this one seems to correspond the specific details of Godet's production. Your perception of inferiour quality might be du to the lithging of the photo. All input would be greatly appreciated

        cheers
        Peter

          Hi Peter,

Why don't you post the photos on the "Crosses of the Wehrmacht" forum and get some of the real experts to give you an honest opinion? Like I said, I am no expert only a collector like yourself. Those gentlemen certainly pointed out that I had several fakes in my collection

          Regards,
          Don_

            Hi Don,

Those photos are not mine to be posted, further more you'll more likely get some serious comments in the Political forum. Either way, now that you've concluded I'm merely a collector (which happens to be correct), I'm looking forward with great anticipation what all those "experts" have to say in regards of the marking

            cheers and Happy New Year
            Peter

              Hi Peter,

I meant no offense to your expertise in any way... I should not have assumed that you were a collector like me and I apologize. I am 71 years old and have been collecting a few 3rd Reich articles over the years since I was a teenager and that's been a long time ago...

              Kind regards,
              Don_

Great link Don, I can see differences in the subject posted for evaluation like the Eagle detail, Frame quality/finish etc... I also agree with your recommendation to post it in the cross section for opinions, great group of collectors there that know their stuff!

Let's see... try this piece with caution since in principle it seems good, but I do not I just like several details:

1 - This cross, by the shape of the upper ball, where it enters the ring, is the regulation of 1943 so the marking shown above the ball is impossible, I have at least never seen an order of 5th class with the marking on the top of the ball, which would be characteristic of a 3rd of the regulation of 1939 but, in this case, the ball should be more rounded.

2 - Ring is open and without marking, in a genuine cross of 5th class should be closed with welding and having the marking 900 and 21 or 21 on the ring and 5 on the fan. Definitely, this ring is not original, I am inclined to think that it has been replaced after or that it is simply a test more than that the cross is false.

3-Never saw that marking, with that way, on a cross of the order of the German Eagle.

4 - The enamel seems very rough it may be signal well wear well than poor execution in the manufacture of the same, or the part done that doesn't happen with the orders made by Godet. For me, there is what we see in that poor quality enamel wear.

In summary, does not assure 100% that that piece is false, for it would have to have it in hand, but when less, I don't like the characteristics described above.

As you already know ebay closed down my auctions,
So I give it a new try at tradera.com
