    Display case suggestions please!!!

    Gents,

I've been collecting militaria now over the last 8 years. Although I don't have a sizeable collection, I have acquired enough pieces to place into into display cases. I've tried Ebay and other Google searches, but thought it best to go to the experts!

My collection consists of insignia and I'm looking for suggestions on some different cases I can use. I'm looking for the type I can take with me, not a static display.

Thanks and Happy Holidays to you all!

    Rikers

For a non-static display for insignia I choose and prefer simple Riker mounts. Easily removed from and kept under glass in a somewhat dust free environment. Plus they come in all shapes and sizes suitable for most anyone's needs. They are inexpensive and buying in bulk over the net further discounted. Good luck.

I concur with petopoint. Riker mounts are good. Background colors are many.

I prefer the wooden cases. They are a bit bulkier than the riker mounts
        but still portable.

Rikers are fine if your just going to store your stuff, however, if the goal is to display your collection, then I agree wholeheartedly with GregM. The wooded cases are the way to go offering everything the Rikers offer but the ability to hang them.

Get an old bow fronted chest of draws....a friendly carpenter......cut largest draw in half, glass top of draw and hinges to open.....lights fitted and decorate as required........

I agree with GregM. I think the wooden display case is the way to go. It displays your collection nicely, it's portable and can be easily rearranged.

This company makes affordable wooden display cases. They also make a rack for stacking them to move them around.

                    display cases

Thank you all for your feedback. We're definitely on the right track, as these are the types of cases I'm looking for.

I've seen great posts ranging from low end (Rikers) to high end (custom wood). Anything in between you'd suggest? I've tried doing internet searches but I can't seem to hit the right search parameter.

                    Thanks

                        Custom display case....

My custom display case is my own design.... I have five original German WWII daggers and made my own case. I used high quality plywood and framing wood to build the case and the glass panel is heavy beveled edge plate glass. The case is a clam shell design and the front swings down on three brass hinges. I purchased an original German flag poll eagle and mounted it between the start date of WWII for Germany "1939". It sort of reminds me of the banners held high in parades at that period in German history...

Check and see if IKEA still makes the Detolf, a great upright glass case that is very inexpensive. Great for hats, helmets, etc.
