Well guys I know I have shown this one before but now with the helmet in hand, i had more time to look into its details, meassure the decal, and I think that such a rare helmet deserves to have one more space to expose some better photos and detail with some more researched idea of its service histrory
I believe this helmet to be either of ET or SE manufacture, due to the shape of the Sell and of the vent holes. I can no longer read the maker marke, but the shell is still rather solid. The outside dome has some pitting and is more gamaged than the rest of the helmet, which makes me think it was laying dome down. It also has a stress crack.
The Huber Jordan Spanish freiwillige decal is right down to the mm and the detail and characteristics of this very particular decal are present, note hos is misaligned and right under the venthole..no space ..common trait in original BD lids....!!
This clay that is still rather stuck to the shell is exactly the same as the one on one of the ammo pouches found in the same bunker. Unfortunately the Heer decal is not in such good condition, and it has some wax on it probably was near a candel on the bunker where it was kept, that wax preserved the adler´s wing in good condition while the rest has suferd quite some deterioration
The interior leather is still there with its original drawstring; unfortunately the liner band is far gone and can no longer tell any markings. Fortunately the markings on the chinstrap are still visible and is marked 1940.
the lot numbers are "...852..."
So if its ET or SE, the lot number would palce it in 1940 as year of production, I believe,.....so therfore it could very well be one of the original helmets supplied to the Blue Division at the trainning camp of Grafenwohr...so therfore this helmet lived the units history, from supply at the bavarian trainning camp where it received te spanish color decal, to the long march to Russia where it saw action on the Nogorod Sector, until it finally got lost in the Krasny Bor/Kolpino sector on that black February of 1942 in those corageous actions performed by those brave men of Regiment 262 that held off the Soviet onslaught long enough for the unit to reorganize and stop the offensive
This helmet was lost in a little time capsule up untill 2012......Last edited by Spanish Freiwillige; 02-24-2013, 08:16 PM.

Ok..not the best but some initial photos of my third Blue Division lid, out of my three lids...this one has the worst condition....
As you can see form the photo below, when found, this lid still had its liner, but didnt survive............ soon after it dried up and fell...
Better photos will follow....

Hello,
Just discovered this thread, and the very nice photographic views from your collection. Thank you for sharing these artifacts on the forum! I really like the WW1 and Vietnam displays, and am especially impressed with the paintings from your grandfather. Very powerful work. It's clear you have inherited your strong aesthetic understanding from him. Wonderful presentation of your war relics.
Best Regards
