Items From Historical Figures

Hi Guys,
I was just thinking that it might be interesting to see items from some of the Forum members collection that belonged to famous historical figures. I don't have anything like that in my collection, but I am sure some of you do, and I would like to have a look at those items.

My dad has a second draft battle report from the battle of Plancenoit in 1815 , written by holder of the Pour le Merite with oakleaves Oberst Johann Friedrich August Freiherr Hiller von Gärtringen, commander of the 16th Infantry Brigade of Selesia, to the King of Prussia, telling of the outstanding performance of his men against Napoleon's troops, and about the capture of Napoleon's carriage and other treasures inside it.

I've got an old waterstained book from the early 20th century called "Principals of Field Artillery". Inside both front & back it's stamped "Property of Alvin C. York". Sure wish it had his signature. But the price was right, a gift from a fellow collector about 15 years ago.

You mean...

...historical figures as opposed to famous personalities?

"Famous", I have a PLM/OL's from a famous Baden reg't. commander... but he's not in many general history books. I also have an RK from a "personality" and an Arbeitsbuch from one of Dr. Goebbel's secretaries... but the closest I come to having an article belonging to an historical figure is a certain photo album.

It belonged to the wife of Wilhelm Greoener, The PLM-winner who was Minister of the Interior and Minister of Defense in the Weimaer Republic. It was he who had to tell the Kaiser to abdicate, and his anti-Nazi influence would have been most welcome with President Hindenburg... had he not fallen from favor with him for...

...marrying the woman whose album I now possess!

It's a great album with some great pics - she was a nurse in WW1. I will one day soon scan some of the photos and post them in the Imperial section.

Hi folks,
I have several items that belonged to Adolf Hitler. Here is a personal gift a letter opener and wax seal. This item was liberated by a member of the 34th Infantry Division, General Frank Elisha Reed. This item is featured in the book Collector's Guide to "Liberated" Adolf Hitler Memorabilia Volume II by Mark D. Griffith, M.D. and is shown and discussed on page 28.

This item was obtained in 1986.

I have a chair that belonged to Confederate General Patrick Cleburne. It is a folding "opera chair" that he carried with him in the field during the Civil War. I am descended from several people who fought on the side of the Confederacy & it has been in our family through several generations.

I have to say I would rather have a chair that Genl Cleburne had sat in (wonder if he used it on the afternoon of Nov 30, 1864, while waiting for Hood to decide about the assault at Franklin?) than most Third Reich items I could think of, even Michael Wittmann's Oaks and Swords. What a piece of history, David!
