    kriegsflagge display

    hi everyone,

i have a small (50x85cm) launch sized Kriegsflagge that i would like to display... can anyone give me some ideas on how to do it without harming the flag?

i have thought about sandwiching it between two panes of uv resistant glass, and clipping them together so that it could breathe in a sense and not dry rot... but i'm not sure about that either.

    any thoughts appreicated!
    thanks
    john

Have you ever thought of framing it? If you have any woodowrking skills, you can construct a custom frame out of a suitable wood, have some glass cut and boy that would look nice hanging over a display cabinet. I have done this with a couple of Japanese flags that I have and some of them have been in their frames for ten years or more with no harmful side-effects.
Interested in candid/private Hitler, KIA, and Holocaust photos. Also any AH related memorabilia--silverware, linen, crystal, china...
    All the best,
    Chris

regretfully, i have no woodworking skills that might amount to anything
i have thought about having it archivally framed by a local business that has framed a lot of prints for me, but something about placing it in a more or less 'closed' frame worries me. probably me being overly cautious... going to try and look at some of the other folks' displays on here and see if i can find any with framed flags. thanks ekman, john

A shadow box type frame would be nice. I've seen professional frame shops offer this for cloth items. The hard back is covered with black or neutral colored cloth, the flag is then tack-stitched to the cloth backing. It doesn't touch the glass. Looks very high class, as you might see in a museum. Probably expensive though.

Maybe a commercial frame with a home made box in the back would work? I dont think a glass sandwhich would work very well on a Kriegsfahne for the simple reason that the lanyard is thicker than the flag and the panes of glass would not be parallel.
