Hi, I just returned from the Lowell military show and several sellers were saying the MAX show might be cancelled due to poor table sales! Has anyone else heard these rumors?I reserved my tables a few weeks ago and I have heard nothing negative about the new show location.Jay Parisi

here is the rumor I heard,
they could not get the hall in Pittsburg, so they moved it to a place they new that would not do good, then, they can say moving is not a good idea, (but that was what the show was first founded on, moving to different cities), like I said the rumor I heard, I have not heard that it was getting cancelledDaveJ

Dave, while I've no idea how table sales are going, I do know a couple of facts about the MAX. The Radisson Expomart in Pittsburgh did not want the MAX to leave. It was their only event that sold out the hotel a full year in advance. Tom Johnson had always envisioned a show that traveled around the US and had been wanting to move for a couple years. They ran into huge problems trying to find a location that was even willing to host the MAX due to the presence of Nazi items. Then they had to find a place with airport access to both US and European dealers, and available amminities without having everyone spread all over town. To sum it up briefly, our beloved hobby just isn't welcome in a lot of desirable locations, so their choices were limited.
Unfortunately, the MAX show the last couple of years in Pittsburgh received some bad press from dealers due to the high cost of rooms and tables. Charolette was selected based on the price of the center and the accomodations being much more reasonable. The MAX has attempted to repsond to what dealers said they wanted. Now I guess we'll see how the dealers respond to the MAX.Ignored Due To Invisibility.

Hi Larry,
I have been going to the MAX almost since it started and have enjoyed my experiance. I like the idea of it moving around because it does give a large number of collectors in what ever area a chance to go to a big show, and it also gives some of the smaller dearers an crack at a big show to sell their wares.
I hope it does well in NC and where ever it winds up next,

I just hope the traffic situation on I-77 and Independence Blvd. is better by the time the show rolls around.
Every time I go through Charlotte I get stuck in at least an hour traffic jam. It happened again last month on the way back from Myrtle Beach. We usually bypass Charlotte because of this, but I decided to chance it this year because I was making such good time. Unfortunately, nothing has changed and the traffic is still a huge problem.
Be forewarned, and make sure to plan ahead to avoid getting stuck.

I interviewed Tom Wittmann about two months ago for an article I wrote on the MAX for an upcoming issue of Military Heritage. At the time Tom said that they were expecting a solid turnout and hoping to have more displays than usual. He made no mention that the show might be canceled at that time.

One of the host hotels - The Ramada Inn - sold out completely a month or so ago (incidentally, this means that parking at the Show is free for all attendees). The Adam's Mark has confirmed reservations for 250 room-nights with additional reservations being made daily.
Wall tables sold out about an hour-and-a half after table sales opened at last year's MAX. To quote directly from Tom Johnson's most recent e-mail, "We are shooting for another 1500 sale table show. Where do the rumors originate? We also have many more exhibits signed up this year than any previous year."
Tom also states that, "This year's show is shaping up to be huge."
Should be a good time...every time that Show moved in the past, the first year in the new location has seen some great walk-in stuff and a number of new dealers with things I can't seem to live without. This will be the first MAX since Baltimore when the whole Show was in a single room, which makes everyone and everything easier to see. (In fact, Baltimore was the only location where the Show was in a single room/hall. The first MAX Shows at the Chase Hotel in St. Louis were actually broken up on two floors.)I'll be in Charlotte Tuesday evening and staying through Sunday...hope to see everyone there!
