    Riker cases

I have tons of Riker cases with both cloth and metal items displayed inside. I use felt as a backing to set the items on that are going to be stored in the case. Over time I've noticed that when I open the case and take the items out, there is a negative of sorts that appears on the glass. The negative is in the form of what looks like a fog on the glass. I usally wipe this down with a little spritz of water and a clean cloth, then wait about 5 minutes for the glass to completely dry before I replace it on the main case. Is this a problem that will eventually damage either the cloth or the metal? So far I haven't noticed anything bad but I'm starting to get a little paranoid. What is a better alternative?

Any chemical reaction that is going on around your stored medals or whatever is not good. Better to be on the safe side and choose a case made out of a non-invasive material
Interested in candid/private Hitler, KIA, and Holocaust photos. Also any AH related memorabilia--silverware, linen, crystal, china...
    All the best,

      Dave,
I've noticed the same thing in my Riker cases. Just as you, I clean the glass and let it set a few minutes before replacing. I've not noticed anything amiss with the medals but I do wonder just the same.

Same here. I've noticed the phenomenon but I've never seen any ill effects on any of the items displayed in the cases.

I've noticed that his effect is usually more intense with paper and cloth. Don't know exactly what is going on but have resorted to switching the paper to archival inert page protectors.

I was once told by an "old timer" blade collector that glass is very abrasive. He would not set a blade on glass or store items in this type of mount. I do not know how much I believe this but I do put acid free paper between the glass and any thing enamel. I plan to put the paper into the case and then wrap it up over all of my items in the future. Maybe it is a bit superstitious but better safe than sorry!
