Hi I am kinda new to these forums (I have been here a little bit but just viewing and never posting.) I study modern history and that is where i get my inspiration to collect military items. I have only been collecting for about 2-3 years now (about 3/4 of the time has been studying how to spot a fake before i even started buying the stuff)
My collection is not huge and consists of:
WW1 2nd class iron cross
3rd reich war merit cross (with swords) 2nd class
Cross of honor (with swords)
a black wound badge
a set of world war one british medals
two purple hearts (one from ww2 with ribbon and original box and the other more modernish)
I have taken an interest in more the Axis and soviet medals as i love the social history behind them. I am not a fan of the top medals given to the top generals because as a historian I like to focus on the foot soldiers (or the little guy as some people like to call them. Also as a student I don't have the money for that sort of thing! XD) Any way i hope to join this forums a lot more as i am taken more and more part in military fairs around my area (unlike before when i would crawl through antique shops hoping for a lucky find) I hope to have a photo up of my collection asking for views on the items after Christmas. I am also thinking here that you could suggest a few items i should look out for on my travels around. I like to collect medals mainly (this includes badges) as the uniforms/weapons take up to much space for me.
