I recently read a report about StuG Brigade 902 written in 1966. Mentioned was Oblt. Rolf Mucke and I remembered your wrapper with his name.
In 1943 he was in battery 247. In 1944 this battery became part of Brigade 902 and in 1944 Mucke held the rank of 1st Lt as chief of 2./902.
So I can not see how the rank of a Captain, the unit 247 and the person Rolf Mucke match as shown on your wrapper. Do you have any idea?
Hallo Wolfgang, acording to the bundesarchiv he was promoted hauptmann 01.08.1944.
This tunic was part of a large group from this officer including denim wrap, dagger, awards, equipment, and Much more..
In this group there was also a regular officers tunic from his time in a schwere artilleri regiment also Holding the rank of hauptmann but with the old unitnumbers.. in my opinion he kept his old unitnumbers but upgraded the rank on his tunics wich i belive wasnt uncommen.
Hope this helps
Jens

thanks for let me know your opinion. It could be as you assume. Update the rank insignia on the existing uniform stuff after promotion should be a common procedure. However I never heard about to keep the obsolete unit numbers when some action on the epaulette was to do.
You wrote you have a grouping from this officer. If you are interested I could send you a pic by PM (it seems I don’t have permission to upload pics by myself) which shows Mucke only with EK I and black wound badge dated Jan. 1944. It would be interesting to match this level of decoration at this time with other information out of your grouping.
