    D-Day Exhibition, Liverpool Library Museum

    Hi all,

The library put on an exhibition to commerate the 60th anniversary of D-Day. They asked me to contribute to it with a few relevant bits so here are the pictures of my contribution. There are other cases with printed material in and one had a few dodgy looking German bits in. They even had the swastikas concealed which annoyed me a little to say the least

I am very pleased with the way the items have been presented in very smart glass display units. When I asked how much they cost I couldn't believe it

    Many thanks from Jack.

Close ups. Nice lighting in these things. British Denison Smock, battledress blouse, Airborne helmet, red beret and binoculars. And of course a soldiers' bible

Lee-Enfield No.4 and Sten Mk.2 with bandoleers etc., Tommy helmet with camo and decal, group of medals belonging to a soldier in the 4th King's Shropshire Light Infantry. This unit took part in the D-Day landings and helped to liberate Caen. The man was wounded in Normandy when a mortar round landed near his foxhole, but he lived to tell the tale!

            Well done Jack.

If I had known the library were having an exhibition I would have come along.

Hi Jack, well done with the display! How long did you leave your stuff there for? I would not let my stuff out of my sight.

I was saddened to hear about the "PC" crap

Please tell the price of the cabinets as I have often wondered how much they cost?

              Cheers, Ade.

                  Hi,

                  Thanks for the replies

Well that stuff will remain in those cases until the 1st of September
It will be missed and yes, I do feel uneasy about leaving it there but I'm sure it will be safe

They tell me they have a nice insurance policy if it comes to the worst

Ade, if I wanted to invest in a couple of glass cases like those pictured, it would set me back a few thousand

                  Many thanks from Jack.

"I was saddened to hear about the "PC" crap "

Ade, I think it is really pathetic and irritating
                    Very petty and amateurish too.

                    Thanks from Jack.

Nice display Jack. You should be proud.
I agree with you. The German items should be presented as they are, without any concealment of the swasticas.
