Laurence- Many veterans & others had their ribboned awards made into button hole or lapel devices that were worn while in civilian clothes.

Thanks Chris. I remember a cousin of my Mom's used to wear alittle metal ribbon from the belgian resistance in the button hole on the collar of his suit.
