    Nazi Beer Steins... feedback, please

[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][/IMG][/IMG][/IMG][/IMG]Hi guys. Was hoping to get a little feedback on these beer mugs. Husband bought them about 20 years ago... about $125 each.

From what I understand, German soldiers would keep their steins at their local bar for when they would visit.

One of these guys was a MARINER.... stein shows British tonnage that he sank.

The other fellow was SS and his stein shows countries that he served in.

Do these look legitimate to you?

I attempted to upoad 8 images, with no luck.... this will give you the right idea, though. I'll be happy to upload the others in a new post if it would be helpful. MANY thanks in advance!

If your other photos are of these types don't waste you time all of this style are
bad fakes. Originals were never made like this. Regards,Ed.

One word would describe this Stein perfectly: ridiculous.

A Waffen-SS vet used to make nice porcelain ones years ago, could pick unit, branch, and other extras. They were really nice, always kick
                myself I didn't buy any.

Lots of nice fake .5 liter steins around, but of course can't buy them as fakes at fake cost. Must pay retail to get that priceless "certificate of authenticity"

iF I WERE YOU...i would take them off the shelf , and just drink beer out of em, and they will always attract attention....you paid dearly for em, but using them will help you get your moneys worth anyway, and maybe land you some real steins from onlookers who may see these, as stranger things have happened, and all you hasve to find is one good one , and these have paid for themselves even as fakes.. What we need is some of the advanced collectors that are into original steins ,to post some of the real deals on another thread some day. prost!

Fake, Yes, but really neat looking. Make them your everyday users. Really great attention getters as Jouneen said. Use them to recoup some of the money back.
As long as you like them that's what counts.
                      Great mugs

                        Hi,

These were produced, I believe, in Wisconsin. Bob Hritz wrote about these a year or so ago when I posted one such stein. They were sold in Shotgun News by Roger Steele (Hollywood, CA dealer), Unique Imports (Washington, DC) as well as some other dealers.

Steins were produced mainly for Luftwaffe personnel but also Heer and Kriegsmarine steins were produced. Prices varied depending on the name of the "recipient" and the decorations on the stein. Typically prices ranged from $75 to $150. By the 80s one could purchase steins to Oakleave, swords and diamond recipients. I have never seen 2 steins the same, nor have I seen any for sale in the past 10 years at shows.

The copies of wartime Steins are being made like this.

                          http://www.steincenter.com/stein/pc/...idproduct=1542

Collectors Armory sold these as well. I remember that they were not cheap then and I am pretty sure that they could also be ordered custom decorated with names etc.
