The non-portable awards are really nice, in my view, and here is one I purchased at the SOS in Louisville this year. It is named to Rudolf Lochner. Later research -- and help from my Luftwaffe veteran friend in Germany who has several huge volumes on German aviation --- turned up the fact that he was a German aerobatic champion in 1938, flying the beautiful and agile Bucker Jungmeister, long one of my favorite aerobatic aircraft. I had the pleasure to fly an original Siemens-powered Jungmeister back many years ago.

This plaque was given to Lochner in 1938 for sixth place in a precision flying competition. He went on to write a book on aerobatics in the early 1960's.

This piece comes with the matching certificate and is in near mint condition. Again, I like the personalized pieces because it is then possible to do the research on the individual. Since my other passion in life is aerobatic competition, this medallion is of special value to me due to the fact it was presented to Lochner.

What I also like about this plaque is the three-dimensional quality of the Icarus figure.

                    NSFK Kepi

This is the NSFK kepi in my collection -- maker is Robert Lubstein (later EREL) in Berlin. I am looking for an officer version as well. The large medallions below are the ones presented to me by my Luftwaffe veteran friend. He was active in NSFK modelling competitions before the war as a young teenager.

                      Headgear

You gotta love headgear --- which is so distinctively German. This is a signals NCO visor from another Forum member. It is a private purchase, tailor-made piece by HPC --- Hermann Potthoff of Coesfeld. This hat even came with the GI capture document.

The eagle on the original hat was denazified, so I searched for weeks for a replacement eagle of exactly the same size and distance between prongs. Finally, I found two of them from Bill Shea and Detlev Niemann. There was no way this collector was going to punch new holes in the hat! The eagle fit beautifully and is identical to the original.

Note the incredibly high peak on this hat --- one of the features which caused me to buy it. I am also looking for private purchase NCO Luftwaffe visors in other waffenfarbe as well, Flak in particular.

                              More medal bars ..

Back to medal bars. Here is a grouping of various combinations -- mostly long service medals coupled with other "flower wars" medals.
