FS Fighting Knives

The trouble is that it's a museum!! And I don't know if they explained it to him at the time that he wouldn't get them back. He won't take it further, and there's not a lot I can do about it as they are his medals
The first ebay item is a modern copy of the 3 inch crossguard FS fighting knife. These are great knives. Very well made, as you would expect from Wilkinson, and if you can get it for £100 in the UK it's a great price. They sell from WS with a scabbard for over £200. In the States they are cheaper $190 for the knife and $49 for the scabbard. Why?? Who knows!!??!!
The second is, or should I say was, a nice knife (a little tied, but you would be after all this time)! Hand gound blade, nice marking of arrow 21, but it's one of those 'England' stamped knives. The Yanks don't seem to mind them being marked, but I can't stand it It just ruins it for me! But that is my own opinion. It's still a nice knife if you don't mind that. The scabbard is wrong. If it didn't have the 'England' stamp and it had the original scabbard I would say it would be £80-£120. As it is, who knows? Like they say, 'There is a buyer out there for everything', but it's not me this time. You could do better, seeing he has started the auction off at £99! If you do go for it don't forget to ask all the relivant question!
1/What is the length of the blade?
2/Are there just the two clamp marks on the nut?
3/Has the knife been taken apart?
4/Is the knife still tight?
5/Is there anything about the knife that I should know about that wasn't mentioned in your desciption?

What! Even if he had 'given' them they should have the decency to hand them back to him if he so wishes.

I would strongly urge you to get him to take this further. I'd have thought that an article in the local paper should be enough to embarrass them into giving them back.

They are strangely alluring very elegant design

As if I haven't got enough things to buy I'll have to keep my eyes open for a nice example to join my collection.

I just came across this thread while searching for cammando dagger, really interesting subject I collect German helmets so it's all new to me. Recently i bought from a house clearence auction a cammando dagger, the auctioneer told me the vet brought it in to sell,which i thought was a shame. I have left word to ask the vet when he comes to collect his money if he as any more items he wants to sell. As mentioned i have little knowledge of commando daggers, could someone give me the low down on this one model etc. also the value as i have no knowledge of what they fetch. The dagger is marked 4 at the top of the grip and 42 on the cross guard. Thanks Tim.

Hi Tim,

Looks like a nice honest 3rd pattern commando knife
The blade is hand ground (you can tell by the triangle shape at the top) and should be 6 7/8 inch long if it hasn't been tipped(re-ground at the tip/point). The scabbard looks like a nice ww2 issue light brown. Early one as the frog (1943?) is stitched to the body of the sheath. If you intend to clean it be careful of the grip, as the blueing comes off very easy with any type of cleaner!! The blade will be OK as long as you don't use wet & dry or wire wool!!!!!
I use a product called 'Flitz' which is made in the States. That is great on the blade and crossguard, but not on the grip!
Well done on getting an original FS dagger
The value should be about £90-£150.

Thanks Irv, you're covered all of my questions. You have some great daggers and i can see the attraction in collecting them. I try not to drift away from the main path of my collecting interest (German helmets) but i couldn't let this dagger pass me by, i paid £75 for it, which isn't a real snip but i am more than happy with it.
