Photos from trip to Marienburg castle

    Hi!

Today is a raining and blurred day.
So, to make myself feel better, I was looking at photos from my holiday in 2007.

I was travelling then in northen Poland, and I went to Malbork (former Merienburg in East Prussia) castle.
I thought that I will share with you of some sunny photos - so enjoy it with me

The castle itself was biuld in XIII'th century by Order of Blessed Virgin Mary and was a capital of their state.

Here we got a general viev from side of Nogat river:
(this photo is a little bit dark...)

(I hope this is right forum to place this photos)

Also once by year there is an all-day historical show with reconstruction of siege of the castle by polish knights:

                          Very pretty.

Did it once have a moat?

                          Regards,
                          Chris.

One of the forum member ask me by pm if the castle was used during the war.
                              So I will answer here:

Marienburg castle was used by Himmler as one of 4 of the Nationalsozialistische Ordensburgs (NS Order-castles). There were high schools that was educating forthcomming personnel of NSDAP and Hitler Jugend. Castle was also a place of many NS ceremonies.

In winter 1945, german troops were defending in the castle, and it was heavy destroyed...
During 1950's and 1960's castle was rebuild.
