The actual "Bunker" in Kaiser's Bunker

I notice quite a few guys are prone to use the word "bunker" as I have in the name of my web site, http://www.kaisersbunker.com but few people realize that "Kaiser's Bunker" actually has a bunker. In addition to Imperial German, I collect Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) 1914 to 1919. My friend Rick (with the ö umlaut in his name) said I should post these, so here they are, blame him. Also, please blame the Kodak digital for the crappy photos, not me. The Bunker in my case, depicts a CEF Battalion Command trench during the battle of Cambrai 1918. It quite dim in there, the candles and lamp are lit, the sounds of battle, explosions, MG fire etc play from a looped recording. The camera flash was needed to take the photos.

In this photo, a machine-Gunner from 2nd Canadian Machine Gun Battalion wearing a Brit. 5-button Other Ranks Tunic stands in the front. You can see the flame in the lamp, which is a tail-light from a junk yard covered in fiberglass and wired to a 12 volt train transformer. Even a few inches away, you'd swear it was burning. Something that actually worked out for a change.........

Here the Coy Commander sits, a Captain 26th Battalion Officer's tunic. This tunic belonged to Captain William Campbell McQuad 26th Battalion Saint John New Brunswick. He is armed with a Smith & Wesson .455.

Consulting with the Capt is a 2nd Division Canadian Engineers NCO. Where would the officers be without us NCOs? The tunic is British 5-button pattern and British War Department stamped but in typical Canadian habit the fold-over collar has been altered to a high stiff collar. Note the 1st war blanket and dated stretcher hanging on the roof beams.

Waiting in the corner of the bunker are two more Canuks, one in a greatcoat and the Machine Gunner again. He is packing a .455 Webley in the open-top P08 holster.

Last photo of the Bunker, this has all the typical junk that soldiers would accumulate. Leaning in the corner is the perfect home-defence weapon; a Mark III Lee Enfield grenade launcher.
