Have a Look at My Display Room

--Rick and Daniel, I know that there is a proper forum to do this in, but I wanted to share this here where it will be most appreciated. I'll post over in the "Displays" forum later, OK?
--After over a year in the new house, I can finally say that I am done with the display section of my recording studio. My current injury has prevented this from happening much sooner, and there is still some molding work and odds and ends to be completed, but...
--All of the woodwork, moldings, furniture and cases I made myself, but for the main parts of the panels in the first shot here.
--This has been a labor of love, so can I have a drum roll, please?

--This is the WW1 singles display over to the left. There's the China and Afrika in there too and yes, I know that's the wrong ribbon on the other Bavarian...(know where I can get the right one?)...

--Here's the "1813" case on the right. As in the other case, there are 'local' items - the three 1840's awards at the bottom...

--This is the "1849-1866" display, over on the far right...

--And below that and the map of Prussia, lie very nearly all of my zinkys...

--Away from that wall for a sec to the other side of the room. This is my desk, the 'console' and one computer is to the left, but that has no militaria in it so we'll work on what's in front of me. Bear with me, I've had a cocktail or three.

--The top left document is a letter signed by Blucher from around 1809/10 when he was in his kinda psychotic stage. It's simply a letter to a mayor or somesuch, thanking him for the pledge of conscription, or actual conscription or hey, who the hell knows, the Germans can hardly figure out what it says.
--Next to that up top right is a letter from Kaiser Wilhelm I dated June 22 1883 to the (Saxon?) King informing him of the death of his brother, Karl Alexander of Prussia. Black strip up top and all.
--Below that is a letter written by Helmuth von Moltke, just a day after his 90'th B'day (which was a national holiday) thanking a painter for the B'day gift of a portrait of him commemorating the 1864 campaign. Wrote 'Thank-You' notes, his mom brought him up good.
--To the right is a patriotic bandanna which depicts the Crown Prince standing over I believe, the French General Douay, who was mortally wounded at Wissemburg on August 4th 1870.
--Most of the frames in this room are as almost as old as or sometimes older than the objects inside...Just figured I'd mention...
--also that the chair was bought...

--To the left and behind the not-pictured-console built in a recess that I couldn't take down when I ripped the closet out. Oh Jesus, I should have taken 'before and after' shot's. I think I have one.

--Anyway, these are my oldest books. Most pre-1900, dealing with the Franco-Prussian War, some with Frederick the Great (His dad was a funny guy.)
--The bottom bit is for Tony, an M1871 Pickle sitting atop a `44 US 3 inch AT shell. Next to that are old Bibles, a little red Kriegs-Depeschen book from 1870, and a little Fokker Triplane from the 1970's...

--Just for a little break in the action, here's the 'Hohenzollern Keyboard' that I made from mahogany a coupla years ago. Carved in that Prussian eagle (matches my avatar) and colored the recesses with black leather dye before finishing. Made the table for it last summer...

--Back to the main wall, we'll work from bottom up.

--From a downward glance there is the Franco-Prussian War case, and above are the cased EK1's in bottom of the main cabinet (uh yep, that is a `39 (Wachtler) dead center), but the other six are 1914's - hey I had nowhere else to put it, alright?

Hello Bill, nice collection you have. Also those display are great. Could you help me? Where did you get the cases for your Wehrmacht awards?

--Between those two cases there is a 'strip' of 1914 EK2's bordered by wound badges. I put it there, partially because the light from the Franco-Prussian case highlights that particular area. All of the cases are lit internally and have individual dimmers, there are track lights also on dimmers that I had to take down to get good shots, but I've lit it all very well - wish I could convey that here...Looks good barely lit.
