TIRPITZ High Seas Fleet Badges by Schwerin

    Hello Collectors
Here is a very spesial lot from the German Battleship Tirpitz

Diver found at Tirpitz Ship in North Norway Tromsø.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tirpitz was the second Bismarck class battleship of the German Kriegsmarine, sister ship of Bismarck, named after Admiral Alfred von Tirpitz. She only participated in one combat operation, which was the only time she fired against enemy targets. She never fired at an enemy ship, but spent most of World War II in various bases in German-occupied Norway, where her mere presence was a threat to the Allies, tying up significant naval forces[1][2] Due to her role and bases of operations she was dubbed the "Lonely Queen of the North" ("Den ensomme Nordens Dronning") by the Norwegians and much less poetic "The Beast" by Winston Churchill. She was the largest battleship ever built in Europe, with dimensions slightly exceeding those of her sister ship. On 12 November 1944 Royal Air Force Avro Lancaster heavy bombers bombed and sank Tirpitz at her moorings.

The wood plate in the tread is picked up at the shipswrack Tirpitz. You can clearly see sign of some small shell`s
The quality of the wood is Teak type. Very hard.

The High Seas Fleet Badges by Schwerin was also found in the deep with the Tirpitz wrack. I have two of them.

One is cleaned extra up in some acid for better finish. The other is clean normal.

I have put these badges on the wood display together with a Kriegsmarine Summer Eagle .

Here is the pics of them .
    Im proud of this Lot

    Enjoy the pics.
    regards LH

Amazing that such Abzeichen are to be found, in that condition! Nice display also, I like wreckfinds. This means the sailor was on cruisers/battleships before, or perhaps even obtained this when his ship went down. For example, if you were on cruiser Köningsberg or Blücher which sunk in 1940, you obtained the badge. I am not quite sure how the odds where obtaining the badge when you were on Tirpitz. The few actions she undertook offcourse counted for obtaining the badge, but how this was when she was just static? Perhaps somebody can tell more about this.

      Regards,

      Maurice

Hi Adrian, Thanks for showing the thread, that explains it.
I do have some documents from Tirpitz crewmembers, but no wreckpart yet. It is on my wanted-list, as I like those very much.

                      regards,

                      Maurice
