I've shown the pics of the bag to a friend of mine who collects all items of the FEK. He has some doubts about the bag because you can buy them sometimes as fakes on EBAY Germany.

Where did you get yours ??

From a dealer in Tennessee, U.S.A.
Does your friend have pics of the fakes sold in Germany?
I would like to see it.

Sorry. He doesn't have some pics but he is quite sure that these bags are fakes.

You can open a thread to discuss the bag. IMO its a fake too.

What is it that leads you to believe it is fake?
Does your friend have pics of any originals to compare?

My friend and myself have never seen one which we would buy as original.

These bags design is typical for the 39 and following years. But there are only a few more FEKs awarded. The most are out of the middle 30ies. There for most bags are without inscription and bigger. Later you could buy a case for it.

In fact of these and that we've seen a few of these bags on ebay let us come to this conclusion.

The large wax packets of the blue, green, red (cum brown colour) and the brown variety are what the Honour Cross was packaged in, in the postage envelope posted to the recipient. Certainly there was a sheet of paper in with these awards that expressed you could purchase a subsequent hard shell presentation case at your own expense, too.

Cases for these awards vary prior to the introduction of the LDO. I have some of the earlier versions of the red form and ''patterned outer coverings'' and I'm aware of several other guises including the Urkunde set, dual EK2/HK set, those with green and yellow bases.....etc, etc. And then the little cardboard boxes, also. The dark red cardboard box is perhaps the more ''often'' encountered, and then a turquoise version in my experience is seldom ever seen.

I've mentioned about the LDO: well, in fact you could buy these through retailers as sets from a time as from March 1941 in the red and black cases - these cases basically emulate the original forerunners apart from obvious features as in the catches, outer covering pattern (and a more vibrant red colour at that) and indeed more importantly a KB number code for the base punch identification - for a few details.

When you think about it, the same can be said of to some extent of a parallel regarding the ''Flower War'' medals and the West Wall, too - i.e issue duration and then retail. The West Wall of course had a second run in 1944 though.

As to this packet, well, there is only one genuine style and sole maker attributed to the genuine packet (thus far) and I think we have an example here.

I actually own one and several others also have one with a matching marked cross. I'll have to scan it and post it on the P&C forum.

Fakes of these are rife, yes. German e bay is full of fakes and the odd genuine bargain. The fakes produced are emulating the genuine couterparts to a better degree more and more....that is true!!
