    Display Assistance

    Greetings!

I'm just getting around to putting my collection into some sort of order for display in the office. I was wondering if anyone out there could offer advice on the best way to display Naval Cap Tallies? Thanks!

    just a thought???

you could go to the local k-mart/wall-mart? and pick up one of those pre-built frames for posters they come with the frame and plastic instead of glass, their about 24" x 36" and cost about $4.00,,,, and remove the back and you could put your own backing on it like felt or? and then lay them down the way you want and then put it back together and hang it on the wall????

cheap and safe from the outside from moths and dust and prying fingers

i think it would look pretty cool.

Thanks for suggestion on the larger display boards. My concern is the effect that the plastic/plexiglass would have on the gold/brass thread of the tallies. I have one from the Nurnberg that is still wrapped in the original paper as issued to a sailor coming on board. Will the plastic speed up the oxidation of the threads?

I like your home page. Wish I had time!

thanks, it is alot of time to keep one of those cheap web-site up.

on the plastic affecting the threads, well i'm not an expert but i don't think it would have an effect on them if you keep them from the sun. maybe someone else could give some advice? on the size of one you could just turn one on it's side because you can't tell what side is what.

ya i think it would be ok, i would make sure there is not any sheet covering the plastic and wash it with (plexi) warm water to remove anything that might be on it from it being made. but sure would not use any cleaner on it, only water.

          hope this gets you going?
