My new framed U-boat badge display and other things

    Hello folks,
My good friend Victor Pena brought over my U-boat badge display yesterday. I want to share it with you.

The U-boat badge document and EK document belong to Maschinenmaaten Hans Klenner (U-93). The U-boat badge was awarded on December 1, 1940 and the 2nd class EK was awarded on February 15, 1941. BTW, the badge in the frame is a 1st pattern Schwerin Berlin. The EK is parade mounted. The plaque is laser etched. BTW, both the EK and U-boat badge are mounted on fabric that almost perfectly mimics the fabric of a KM tunic. It took my friend a while to locate it.

I will also include a few other displays also framed by my friend. For those of you who don't know my friend is also a 3rd Reich collector and handles everything with the greatest of care. Victor only uses acid free matts, archival paper, tape, and sleeves (to hold documents).

I hope you like my little display(s). My friend Tony from the forum also has Victor do his frames as well. Here is a link to some of Tony's Imperial German frames. http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=346949

    Regards,
    Jody

    Robert E. Lee

Here is how Victor framed my Robert E. Lee autograph (I collect US Civil War autographs too). This autograph has been in the family a long time. BTW, I had a perfect copy was made of the front of the letter, because I wanted to display the reverse with the signature. As a result you can read the entire correspondence. The letter is dated July 28, 1865. Robert E. Lee is thanking a Mr. John B. Cocke (son of deceased Southern General Philip St. George Cocke) for taking care of his horse "Traveller" in the last months of the war. This letter was obtained from the Cocke family by a relative of mine many many years ago.

    Regards,
    Jody

          Flak badge

Here is how Victor framed up a simple early ball hinge flak badge along with a period photo of an HG man wearing the same type of Flak badge.

                  Hello,
Here is a framed display Victor did for me several years ago. It is a hunting license belonging to and WKC document signed by Waffen-SS and Police General Rudolf Querner. I have at least a dozen more frames done by Victor.

Jody - the new U-boat display is wonderful! Definitely the best out of the framed displays IMO.

These custom framing jobs are NOT CHEAP!

                            Hi Guys,
Thanks for the kind words. I do agree that these jobs are not cheap. Over the years I have spent probably $5,000+ on frame jobs. However, I feel that this is the best way to display and present these historical items. It looks much nicer then placed in riker mounts or the such. I will say this, when people see them, they are less apt to be offended by such items too. It is amazing how many women or the wives of fellow collectors tell their husbands "you should do the same" when they view my items.

I have many more framed displays to show. BTW, you should see the killer Imperial German aviation framed display we are designing and working on. I will have that done next year.

                            Regards,
                            Jody

Wonderful displays Jody. Love them all--the Robert E. Lee display is great, always liked that one.

I know you and have been working on the U-boat display idea for a long long time, couple years at least, correct? Then the planning of the display with Victor. So I know this has been a long time in the works as you have found the different elements for the display.

Just so the members understand, Victor is a master framer and also a professor of engineering. He is quite talented. You will not find Victor in the phone book, his clients come by word of mouth.

He also has a very nice militaria collecton among other collecting interests. Needless to say, his collection is beautifully displayed.

I would never take such items to the local frame shop, never. It takes days to do this and nobody would or should leave items with anybody they do not know IMO. Especially TR items. With Victor, they are safe.

So Victor is not an amateur doing this for fun, he is a professional, but the results speak for themselves. You get what you pay for as we all know.

Great displays Jody and good work Victor. I am glad to count Victor as a friend along with Jody. Makes any trip to Arizona a lot of fun for me.

                              John
