    Help needed moth attack

    Hello Guys

    i have needed your help

    a good friend of my is now collecting about 50 years and have a great collection,but he has problem with the MOTHS

    WHAT CAN HE DO to protect his LARGE COLLECTION

    the room is 50 meter on 15 meter ans i think he has more than 50 mannequins and a lot of stuff


    but now he is affraid for his collection

    please help me and my friend

    Looks like he has a major problem.Best thing would be to get all clothing off the mannequins,see if the moths have laid eggs.To be sure throw all off it in the freezer for a few days,take it out and repeat once more.Make sure the room is cleared from moths and there way in has been found and taken care off.Use mothballs [carefully] and moth paper ,spray and other options to create a inviroment in the room that the moths dislike.Check regalury if the problem has not returned,new additions also in the freezer before its put in the room.It wiil be a load of work to get all uniforms off and getting it all in the freezer,but killing mothlarva and especially eggs can only be done by freezing the buggers.

      I have had this one made by a good friend of mine. It is made of aluminium and "plastic" glass and is 100% moth free. It can store 20 uniforms.

        As a first step, the freezer thing can work, but you have to get it real cold, and leave them in there for a while.

        Then some time in quarantine with mothballs, in a sealed bag or trunk should help.

        I think the biggest problem is knowing what to look for. There are several types of wool eating insects, but the moths we fear are generally not big "butterfly" shaped moths. They are kind of like big mosquitos in size. That's the adults.

        The larvae that actually do the nibbling, are little worm like things, whose cocoons look like a piece of carpet fuzz on the wool.

          hello guys thanks for the good advice,but the problem is the collection is so big,it is an privat museum, in the old way

          nothing is behind glas everething is with mannequins arround ,kubelwagen and flak enc................ thats the problem ???????????

            My advies, because of the large scale of his collection, is to get advice from a company that is specialized in these sort of things. All the advice above metioned is correct but as you said, difficult because of the large scale of his collection. Best thing, I think, is to spray the entire room done by an expert.

            This is always been a concern to all of us collectors. Hope your friend is on time!

                I am told cedar will repel moths. Some people line their closet walls with it in
                board form, like 3/8" X 3" X varying lengths. I have some small sample boards scattered around my room.

                  It must be what is called "Aromatic" cedar to do any good against moths.
