Framed displays

I know that some of you have your items in framed wall displays(picture frames). Are those purchased at a custom frame shop or are they home made? They look so good and work very well at prserving those items, but allowing them to be veiwed.

I have had 1 grouping framed. It is really nice but it gets expensive quickly. I had mine done at Hobby Lobby when they were doing their 50% off frameing and it still cost me around 400 for the frameing, matting, and 100% UV stopping glass. I will add some pics up of the document grouping later. It looks wonderful when they are all done up very nicely. Matt

whilst of no use to the original poster, those of us in the u.k., who have a "Range" store nearby, they sell some frames for display, in three sizes, the largest of which will easily take a dagger and insignia etc. very reasonable price around the 5 pound each mark, and are in unstained pine type wood, so you can just polish them or stain them yourselves.

Hi Nimble1,

I just saw you are using “coloured foam case liners” inside your display cases (2nd picture). I’d like to do that on my own, but I am a bit concerned the foam case liners could pucker because of the pin on the reverse of the awards. Did you put your awards just inside the display case like usually or did you pierce the foam case liners?

thats the way i do it.... frame bought in a local shop, price incl. blue cloth: 7$.

its a very thick frame with enough space which allows to display large awards suchs as german crosses. the frame is available in different sizes.

I get the hinged frames from michaels and cut out black felt, work pretty well:

Hi John,

For mine, though I do not have pictures, they are held on there simply by the pressure of the glass against the felt backing. The frames open on a hinge, they usually come with some sort of soft backing material (the stuff that is used in quilts) and I place the felt on top of that, after that, I simply arrange the items how I would like them displayed, close the glass and latch it and they are all held in place.
