cabinet finishing help needed

Hi,
Well after a long time my disply cabinet is nearly finished,the cabinet is made from oak and i would like your help in what is best to finish/seal the wood?
would it be better to varnish,french polish,wax or some other method which is the best,easiest for me would be wax ,would this provide a good finish that will not harm what i put in it,uniforms helmets etc or would some other finish be more suitable? I would like to keep the wood colour natural.
Any ideas much appreciated.

how about shellec? you need the seal the wood and give it a light sand. a final coat could be varnish and they come in matt or glossy. if you dont seal the wood, it may breed mould.
