For those who love relics

Location: Sääre village, Sõrve (Sworbe in Deutsch) peninsula, Saaremaa (Insel Ösel in Deutsch), Estonia. Some guys have collected war relics over the years from surrounding battlefields and display them in kind of museum which is called Ajalootuba. I've been there couple of times in last few years, taken some pictures and giving them couple of relics that I found nearby.

Some 10 km away from that Sääre Ajalootuba there's a nice little village shop, which is surrounded the relics, collected by local people and the owner of the shop. These pics were taken in 2007, last summer many items were missing (hordes of tourists!), some items were just arrived






a fake grave, just to make the whole thing more realistic





Following pics were taken on new years eve last December in Southern Estonia. All this stuff was hanging from the ceiling of the pub. The pics are bad, but you should keep in mind that it was dark and first of all I was under heavy influence of certain liquids

Now that is one hell of a collection....the owner doesnt seem to care a lot, the helmets still litter his yard like a battlefield....

Even though they are relics, I kinda hate to see them exposed to the weather. Very interesting grouping.

Reality of War

The thing that these relics remind us of, especially the helmets with their schrapnel damage, is how violent and brutal a soldier's life is. It is easy to forget this when one only sees the near mint army helmet or spotless uniform.

Europe yes, Russia wrong! Try google searching, just type in "Estonia" and you'll be surprised that there are a lot more countries in Europe than Russia and Germany.

The sad thing is that noone knows. If they had a better place for all the stuff they'd already stored everything inside. The main reason for such poor display is of course money. As you can see, there are only battlefield or barn finds, mostly found by themselves or given to them as a present by people like me. But to built a warehouse or smthng like that needs a budget which these guys dont have, neither do I.

A few weeks ago we were having some good time in that Sõrve museum and around. And couldnt keep from digging. Enjoy:
