Hey Chris, no need of a new camera! I have an obsolete 2 Mpix digital and can make super macros with it... How? - With magnifying glass I learned this trick here, on the forum 
Put a bigger or smaller magnifying glass infront of the zoom of your camera and start making the macros! You just need to look in the TFT display to get the image on focus... the rest is history 
This works even with jeweller's magnifying glass /rather tube/ - but then you make micros, not macros The results are unbelievably excellent, try it!!! Works so fine that at least for now all my dreams for a new camera just perished. /imagine all the nice old things you can get with the money for the new camera

Here, some good close-ups made with an antique camera + magnifying glass Keep in mind that the results can be much better - I neither put good light, nor prevented hand-shaking /especially the first picture became very bad, very "shaky"/, just fast shots to illustrate my words about the "Magnifying glass trick" possibilities...
