Thought I would take a pic of the waffenrocks together - this gives a good appreciation of the differences in the materials.

I also noticed something on the EM's waffenrock that I didn't notice before - it looks like it had a chevron on it at some point - either the original owner was demoted, or it was removed post war (probably given the remaining threads).

Here is a lovely quality piped walking out tunic for a Pioneer "Der Spiess".

The tunic is made of fine officer quality material. Unfortunately the tailor's labels have been removed so it is not named.

The sleeve has a lovely pioneer signals blitz, which is not sewn through the lining.

The eagle is also an officers quality eagle, and is not sewn through the lining.

Collar tabs are bullion, and hand sewn, as is the tress, which is mostly the luftwaffe type except for the shoulder boards. The mix is interesting, though there is no evidence inside or outside that the boards were changed or messed with at any point.

The medal loops are small, and do not fit an iron cross, so likely a combination of a combat badge and a wound badge for this fellow.

Also interestingly there is a small button under the right shoulder for a shooting lanyard.

First tunic for 2011 - It's a light weight tunic, presumably for a southern theatre or possibly tropical theatre, for a pioneer Leutnant. The tunic is a whipcord material, looks to have a standard officer's collar attached, and has been cut in the stylish shortened skirt cut. The tunic has a hand-sewn breast eagle - uncertain when it was applied but it is quite tight, as is the rest of the insignia, though it may have been added post war (can’t say, but it shows consistent wear with the rest of the insignia... this is not a show-stopper for me in any case). The tunic is interesting in that it has no lining, and subsequently is very light weight, which makes me think it was perhaps used in the south (maybe Italy?) or perhaps the tropics. There is definite fading under the collar, arms and pocket flaps, as well as under the boards and where the belt sat. The original unfaded colour is still on the inside and looks like an olive green colour similar to some tropical tunics. The tunic is also generally stained and dirty (though this doesn't show up too much in the photos). There are loops for three combat badges and a long ribbon bar / close combat clasp on the left breast, and loops on the right presumably for a DKiG (which snugly fits in the loops). Some of the loops on the left have come apart through possibly wear and tear, or were collector repaired / added at some point, but I can see evidence of fading around the badges so I believe this kit-out is correct based on the fading. The loops on the right are fairly tight - can't say if they are period added, so am leaning towards postwar addition, but the tunic still looks like a nice salty dog to me.

Thanks guys! Have not added anything to the collection in the last few months (which is sad because the Aussie dollar is so great) - my pioneer collection is now at a point where I can wait for the nice items to come by (just a pity that not too many people are selling at the moment). Oh well, more money to go towards a new car

Seems like us engineers are drawn to the Pioneer stuff!

                          Thanks again!
