New Member - Here's My Small Pioneer Collection

Hi guys - just joined the site today and thought I'd introduce myself and show my rather small collection.

My name is Brad Cancian, and I started collecting around 10 years ago as a mere university student, however a smal budget put a bit of an end to my collecting after only a couple of years. I haven't purchassed anything in the last 7 years or so, and have had the collection in storage since 2002. I recently pulled my small collection out of storage due to moving home, which re-kindled my interest again in collecting. Unfortunately, since I left the scene the prices have pretty much increased quite steadily!

Anyways, being an engineer by trade, I started collecting Pioneer items, namely Wehrmacht and some SS. I tried to keep the collecting focussed to pioneer but did stray here and there! Anyways, here are some pics of my small collection. Apologies for the poor quality pics of the tunics - the pics were taken under some poor light.

First up is my Pioneer Oberst piped walking out tunic, which is named. As you can see, it was period converted from a parade tunic. The difference in colours of the cloth is not apparent under normal light (the flash tends to bring out the small difference quite alot).

Next is my Pioneer Hauptmann parade tunic.

Next is my Pioneer NCO parade tunic, originally purchassed from Bill Shea. This particular NCO saw some combat experience.

Here is my SS Untersturmfuhrer tunic. This is a restoration job - when I got it, there was no insignia (it is still missing a cufftitle but the marks from where it was are very clear). The shoulderstraps are black based with black piping for Pioneer.

Here is my Pioneer Officer's visor, originally a Weitze purchase.

Pioneer NCO visor, unit marked, also originally from Weitze.

Another NCO visor, also originally bought from Weitze. Very interesting in that it appears to have the bullion applied during war time - not sure if this is actually period, but have seen a photo of an NCOs cap with this insignia. Either way, the insignia and hat both have similar wear, and I like the look.

    Here are my two DKs:

Here are some of my non-pioneer items (which I am looking to thin out of the collection at some stage).

First, an infantry visor, which is very salty:

Secondly, and Artillery crusher, purchassed from Wright's militaria here in Australia (used to be a reputable militaria and coin dealer here in Australia back when I was first collecting):

Used to own this tunic, but had to sell it back in my university days. Would love to find where it has ended up...

Anyways, that is my collection. Still deciding whether to brave the minefield again and get back into collecting - depends what comes up. Still, if the right pioneer item came up, I could be convinced to get rid of some hard earned cash.... :-) Anyone know where to buy some nice Pioneer items??

    Thanks for looking,

    BC

        Hi BC

You have a very nice collection. It is not the quantity, but the quality. I love pioneer stuff too. Your items are in superior condition.

        Congratulations

you cant beat pioneer as a branch for collecting.
Have a think about collecting some fieldgear as well, loads of cool stuff around you just need plenty of cash, a sharp eye, some good friends and plenty of travelling around.

                    Brad,

A most impressive display of Tunics; both Pioneer and SS, awards, and your many visors. A collection that any collector would be proud of! Thank you for sharing.
