Old photos of an old collection

    Hi guys,
I found these pictures in a drawer. These were taken back in 1976. This guy (Bob Boyington) had a used record store and had this stuff in the back. That is how he displayed it. He later had a place in California called the Museum of World Wars which closed down in the ealry 80's. I have more pictures of the stuff.
    Regards,
    Jody

    Hi Jody,

Very cool pics...please show us more. I wish I could have run across a shop like that back then (although I didn't have much money back then either).

Here are some SS and Police uniforms. BTW, I taped these two pictures together.

Don't you just love the fancy way he displayed this stuff. He offered me a W-SS M-40 for $90. I passed because it was too much. A collector friend ended up buying it.

I had to wait a few more years until a veteran example W-SS M-40 came my way.

              Jody,

Thanks for the additional pics. An M40 SS for $90? Boy, those sure were the days weren't they. If we only knew then what we know now...sigh.

Wow, what a great assortment of uniforms. Looks like he had it all!
I remember a few pawn & junk shops in my area, when I was a kid back in the 70's, that had the same type of display set up. Stuff hanging everywhere.

Looking back on it now, with the prices they were charging, they were practically giving the stuff away.

As Darryl said, if I only knew then what I know now.
                Regards,
                Chris

Yup neat stuff. I wonder how much of it was fake back then? I bet not too much. Most of this stuff was bought with little or no investment.

Actually Jody-there was a lot of fake stuff around then too. I remember seeing fake Panzer wrappers and SS uniforms, as well as hats and well made medals in those days. I was taught the burning rayon test in 1973!

Many original looking high quality fakes were being produced in 1955 when I first really got started in collecting. The good Doctor of the Costume Studio in Muninch was sending Roger Steele weekly shipments to stock his Hollywood Military Hobbies. Most all today are in collections and passed off as original.

                        Hi Guys,
Actually I was aware of the fakes back then as well. There were many fakes, I was referring to Bob's stuff, most of it he got on the cheap (trades for records and stuff). Some stuff he had was not good, like some of his SS camo.

Bill, I remember the late Roger Steele and I visited his shop many times as a kid and he tried to sell me a fake Luftwaffe Officers overseas cap. An older collector steered me away from him.
