    Paul Giva's Wehrpaesse Collection

It's not pretty, but this is my collection. A combination of Wehrpass groupings and just Wehrpaesse. I have started to transfer my collection to archival quality boxes with Mylar (polyester) sleeves.

How do the rest of you store your documents?

Paul, looks like some awesome stuff!! Would love to see more detailed photos if you get the chance. I use the same mylar type sleeves for mine. They are inexpensive and seem to work pretty well. Mike.

Wow... There is a lot of history documented within all those pages! Glad to see you're archiving them like this.

I'd love to see individual detailed write-ups and photos of these one day. Seeing them in person would be even better

Great collection my friend! Thanks for sharing...

and if there was a smiley face for drooling too, I'd use it. Wow!

Oh Wehrpasses. Gots to love them. They are what started my hobby. Them and Soldbuchs. Nothing beats the personal stories behind them.

I'd do the same. Museum quality storage. People might think we're crazy, I think we're thorough.

Some people store them in ziploc bags, does anyone know of acidity issues with them? From my research, it seems like they could work as an intermediary

Thank you very much for all the kind words, gentlemen.

I have to admit that when I was shelling out the dough for the binders and sleeves, I was really kicking myself. For the money I spent on all of those things, I likely could have bought a RK wehrpass! And I'm not even kidding! But I really couldn't imagine just leaving them out indefinitely and allowing the elements to take their toll. For one, I'd be an accessory to the destruction of historical documents, and that is the furthest thing from my intentions. And second, I would be diminishing the value of items that I may wish to sell one day.

The way I look at it now, I consider the total costs incurred purchasing the materials for conservation as a form of insurance spread evenly among the items in my collection. I wouldn't mind paying a small premium (~$10) when I purchase a wehrpass to have some peace of mind as far as conservation is concerned.

Puts mine to shame Paul, an example to emulate, follow and use as motivation. At the moment all my wp are in a drawer ib ny 'war room' while my docs are in PVCless sleeves in a lever arch file.

How do you store the research you do on them?

One more. If you acquire these sleeves online could you please PM me the website you use.

                      Cheers

                      Jonathan

Seems like a mighty fine collection you have there, Paul. I'd love to see your groupings as well, especially the (matching) award documents. I wouldn't be finished in an hour or two
My documents are in a binder with the same kind of sleeves. I do add a sheet of black paper behind them so only one example is visible (and not what's already behind it). From the moment my seperate room is ready, I plan on taking quality scans and apply those to the walls (or cabinets) to enjoy them even more as I do now already.

                        Thanks for sharing,
                        Laurens

                              Hi Paul,
Nice collection. You are correct, when you get a collection like this you need to shell out some money in order to protect it.

                              Regards,
                              Jody
